The programmes are carried out in association with the local self government institutions in the State. One of the major objectives of the decentralized planning process is effective utilization of locally available materials for economic development. This experiment helped unskilled and economically disabled sections of the society to establish micro enterprises. The programme focused on providing hands on practical exposure to the participants in the manufacturing/production/providing services. This novel experiment also helped the participants to start activities in the small, tiny and cottage sectors thus enabling them to earn a substantial income to support their families. The MEDP assist the economically weaker section of the society in starting tiny businesses. These programmes include components which provide skill and technical assistance to the people in selected areas. The programmes are designed in such a manner that it is culturally and linguistically appropriate for the society. During the last 25 years, the Centre has trained around 30,000 persons through five hundred such programmes in Kerala. After these programmes, over 10,000 micro businesses were started. The emphasis of these MEDPs would be on providing practical training to manufacture products on a commercially viable basis. The various sectors in which training was imparted include: Sl.
