Minimum Wage Rises in multiple States Starting in July: Check the State’s list

With minimum wage increases scheduled to go into effect on July 1, hundreds of thousands of labors in over a dozen cities and states will shortly be paid more.  The left-leaning economic reason tank EPI says that advanced minimum wages that take effect on July 1 will affect almost 800,000 workers in two states, Alaska and Oregon, as well as Washington, D.C.  Next month, a dozen counties and localities will similarly raise their base wage rates.

The federal baseline rate, which has been stuck at $7.25 per hour since 2009, is now greater than the minimum wage.  Some states and localities have increased their minimum wages in response to the gradual rise in living expenses in recent years. a blend of ballot measures, inflation modifications and legislation.

Minimum Wage Rises in Multiple States

In a piece on the increased pay, Sebastian Martinez Hickey, an EPI state economic analyst, said, “These minimum wage rises will put more money in employees’ pockets, aiding many of them as well as their households to make ends meet.”  “The average rise in yearly wages for a full-time, year-round employee after the minimum wage climbs varies between $420 in Oregon $925 in Alaska.”

Similarly, although they only make up little more than 13% of the wage-earning population, over 27% of Hispanic workers will enjoy wage increases.  Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, filed legislation earlier this month to raise the national baseline pay to $15 per hour. This is the latest attempt to raise the federal minimum wage, which hasn’t different in 16 years.

Senator Peter Welch, a Democrat from Vermont, joined him as a co-sponsor. Through a referendum proposal supported by voters, Alaska’s base pay will increase from $1.09 to $13.00 per hour.  The hike will affect 19,400 workers, or 6.3% of the state’s employment, who will receive an average yearly wage increase of $925, according to EPI’s calculations.

US 2025 Salary Increase and Impact

For many families, particularly those in the US’s Latino community, these minimum wage rises are more than simply numbers. More economic fairness, more equal chances, and a higher standard of living will all be made possible by them.  Additionally, although Congress has not yet authorized a federal adjustment, local initiatives demonstrate that a different living wage model is feasible.

  • Since 2009, the federal minimum wage in the US has continued at $7.25 per hour, which is much less than fundamental necessities and urban reality. Studies (like the EPI study) reveal that women make up over half of the beneficiaries, with the majority being African Americans and Hispanics. This presents a significant chance to raise their salaries and enhance the welfare of their families.
  • To shield employees from the growing costs of housing, transportation, and food, several jurisdictions base their wage adjustments on the CPIW.
  • Actual financial gain, a 40–60¢ adjustment translates into weeks of extra money for necessities like food, transportation, or remittances.
  • Local economic growth, providing resources to Hispanic communities, stimulates small businesses and consumer spending.

People’s Opinion on the US Wage Increase in 2025

Sebastian Martinez Hickey, a state economic analyst at EPI, stated that “many workers and their families will be able to make ends meet thanks to these minimum wage increases.”  “The average rise in yearly wages for a full-time, year-round employee after these minimum wage hikes kinds starting $420 in Oregon to $925 in Alaska.”  There are ongoing calls to increase the federal wage.

This month, a bipartisan bill to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour—more than double the existing rate—was presented by Democratic Senator Peter Welch of Vermont and Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri.  Employers must make sure that they review the minimum wage adjustments established in various cities and compensate their staff appropriately as of July 1.
